Sara Hickman is a singer/songwriter, visual artist, and an avid fundraiser for various charities around the world, including Terrewode Women’s Hospital in Uganda, Romanian orphans and a historic Black school in Palacios, Tx, now the Sanford Community Center.
Hickman has released more than 23 albums, via major record labels and independently on her own label, Sleeveless. She had a No. 3 adult contemporary hit "I Couldn't Help Myself," appeared twice on The Tonight Show, hosted her own VH-1 special, produced an independent video — winning first place in the USA Film Festival. Hickman’s songs have appeared in film and tv, and she has appeared in and sung for national ad campaigns such as Wal-Mart, Goodwill, Daisy Sour Cream, Southwest Airlines, and Popeyes. She was co-founder of the three-part vocal group Domestic Science Club with Robin Macy and Patty Lege from 1992 until 1998. Hickman's songs were covered by other Texas musicians, including Willie Nelson, Shawn Colvin, Ruthie Foster and thirty-six others on the 2011 collection Best of Times — which raised funds for non-profits during her appointed time as an Official Texas State Musician, landing her smack dab in between Willie Nelson (2009) and Lyle Lovett (2011). She owns a vintage shop called Twig (Smithville, Tx) and has a podcast called "Studio of the Future", interviewing artists, musicians, politicians and various folks of interest.
